City Works Eatery Pour and Pour House: A Disney Springs Review

Nice to Meet You!

One quick note before we jump into our thoughts on this restaurant. While we are a family of four, you’ll notice that I’ve left out a review of my mother and our son’s meals.  As this is our first review on the blog, you’ll come to learn that at casual dining restaurants they tend to have the same thing each time. Chicken tenders and fries for our son and a plain burger with absolutely nothing on it for my mom.

With that as their standard fare, I’ll tend to leave them out of the food reviews unless they eat something other than the usual or if there is something exceptional about their meals.

That said, when we travel to our favorite places, we tend to stick with our favorite restaurants. This time on our trip to Walt Disney World, we decided that we would branch out and add new restaurants to our stable of experiences.

Disney Springs

Our first stop on this journey brought to Disney Springs and City Works Eatery and Pour House on the West Side.

For the uninitiated, Disney Springs per Disney’s website is “Walt Disney World’s themed retail, dining and entertainment center that is inspired by Florida’s charming waterfront towns, historic architecture and natural beauty.

The sprawling promenade features 4 distinct “neighborhoods”, The Landing, Marketplace, West Side and Town Center - built around bubbling springs.”

There are a wide variety of restaurants to choose from in Disney Springs. There are casual eatery's like Chicken Guy! all the way up to restaurants from award wining chefs like Jaleo.

This time out, we decided to visit a restaurant that would give us a casual bar food vibe with an outdoor seating option for our first meal out on this trip. Enter, City Works Eatery and Pour House.

City Works Eatery and Pour House Overview

Located right next to the now defunct NBA Experience and across from the House of Blues you’ll find City Works Eatery and Pour House.   This venue met our criteria of someplace new and most importantly on this trip offered outdoor dining.

Dining Experience at City Works Disney Springs

Yes, we ate outdoors in August and it was actually pleasant.  The covered patio offered fans to help the air circulate creating a really nice cross breeze.  There were blinds that the restaurant would open and close depending on the movement of the sun.  The covering and screens also provided protection from one of those afternoon pop up rain storms.

Popcorn Chicken Southern Fried Appetizer

For the table we ordered the Popcorn Chicken Southern Fried appetizer.  This was the milder version to its Nashville Hot cousin.   The Southern Fried version was not spicy rather had a peppery flavor with an amazingly crispy and flavorful batter.

The only drawback we found to the appetizer was that it was a little heavy on the salt.

I had the Fish & Chips, which was beer battered alaskan cod, malt vinegar powder, coleslaw and tartar sauce.  Yes, I did say powder.  The powder reminded me a bit of the powdered sugar you’d find on a funnel cake.  I couldn’t finish the fish and not because I was full but there was too much batter.  This dish wasn’t for me.

My husband had the Scorpion Burger, which came with habanero pepper jack, jalapeños, five pepper jam, arugula, vine-ripened tomato and scorpion pepper aioli. It was prepared as he requested, medium rare. I mention this because he’s a stickler for having his beef prepared just the way he likes it.

He also likes spicy foods and ordered this burger because the various peppers promised to fit the bill. However, the peppers did not provide the kick he was looking for. Instead, he found that the five pepper jam provided unexpected sweetness to the burger. The burger was a solid choice but was not the specialty item he was expecting.

Overall, our little group left Disney Spring’s City Works Eatery and Pour House happy with the meal.  I have to say that the sever had excellent attention to detail checking on drink orders without having to be asked and making sure that we had everything that we needed.

Our meal here rang in at approximately $118 with taxes and tip.

All things considered, on a future trip we would definitely eat here again to try out different items on the menu.  I’ve also heard that brunch here is excellent.

Until next time, Savor the journey!
