Savor: Chicken Guy! Disney Springs
Chicken Guy! over at Disney Spring is a very popular, and hence very busy and crowded, quick service restaurant that, as the name suggests, serves mainly chicken entrees, such as tenders, sandwiches, and salads along with a variety of sides and shakes.
The allure of this restaurant is that it was established by Celebrity Chef, Guy Fieri, who is famous for his food show, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Chicken Guy is now a franchise with a chain of restaurants in Florida and throughout the country, including Santa Clara, Pittsburgh, Nashville, and Atlantic City.
Chicken Guy at Disney Springs is located in the Town Center, next door to Planet Hollywood, and in between the Orange and Lime garages. It’s a tad bit closer to the Orange garage, in case you’re interested.
So enough about the back story for Chicken Guy. Let’s talk about the food and our review!
Chicken Guy centers on their tasty chicken tenders, which come with a choice of 2 sauces from 22 interesting varieties including the whimsically named Donkey Sauce, made of mayo, roasted garlic, mustard, Worcestershire, and lemon. Where’s the donkey?
The 22 sauces are the real draw, in my opinion. They add an astonishing boost in flavor, and make a simple meal more fun, remarkable, and appealing. The sauces are numbered and fall into the categories of Guy! Favorites, Classics, and Hot n Spicy. You can order the sauces by name or just by the number. The menu does vary by site so take a look at the Chicken Guy! website to see what options are available.
Many folks are probably intrigued by the different sauces and are keen on trying as many of them as their palate allows, making it an obvious reason for people to come back, time and time again. Although, I must say, the entrees and sides sound pretty interesting too!
Again, your chicken tender order comes with 2 sauces, but you have the option to purchase more sauces so that you can sample and compare several sauces at once and be able find out which ones you like.
We had been excited to try out Chicken Guy ever since we saw a very long line of people forming in front of the restaurant to place their order. We wondered, is it that good that people would get on such a long line for chicken. Well, we were finally able to try it out.
When we first tried out Chicken Guy, we planned on ordering our meal, picking it up and bringing it back home. Of course, like any take-out, it’s best to eat it right away while it’s still warm and fresh, so if you can, you should try to eat your meal while you’re there.
Since this was the first time that we were trying Chicken Guy, each one of us in our group wanted to have their own order of the chicken tenders—no sharing here! We all ordered the 5 Chicken Tenders with our choice of two complementary sauces for each of us, so overall, we were able to try out seven different sauces. In hindsight, we should’ve ordered just enough chicken tenders for each of us to sample, and then order other entrees such as the chicken sandwiches and the chicken bowls. This would’ve made for a more extensive sampling and review of the menu. We’ll think about this for the next time, and wanted to make this suggestion to you in case you’re thinking of trying out Chicken Guy for the first time.
We found the chicken tenders to be well-seasoned and flavorful, and this was even before the sauces. Again, we did bring our food home and even with the amount of time that the tenders were sitting before we could try them out, it was very good, not dry at all, and were delectable. The portions were generous; in fact, we all ordered the five tenders and only ate two each, along with some fries.
Now for the sauces. We tried out #1 Special Sauce, #8 Bourbon Brown Sugar BBQ, #13 Honey Mustard, #14 Teriyaki, #15 Garlic Parmesan, #17 Avocado Crema, and #18 Nashville Hot Honey. You can check out the video below to see what we thought of each. As it turns out we liked all but one and had a clear favorite.
Along with the Chicken Tenders, we also had the Chicken Guy Fries. The fries were seasoned so they were not short on flavor, which many people would probably appreciate. Simply put, we thought the fries were good and dippable.
The cost of the meal was reasonable. We had 3 orders of the Five-Chicken Tenders, 2 orders of the Fries, and one extra sauce, which amounted to $32.43 with tax. Overall, we thought the meal that we had at Chicken Guy was delicious and satisfying, and we would absolutely go back, trying out the chicken tenders again with different sauces, and trying out the other entrees.
Savor the journey!
